It is with great pleasure that I announce, on the eve of the brand's 9th bday, that Mr. Amit Miglani, also known to me as my dear Brother, has joined Shaffali Skincare as interim COO. I chose to share this announcement today versus our company anniversary tomorrow because today is Rakhi.
As stated on Wikipedia: Rakhi is a Hindu festival, celebrated in many parts of the Indian subcontinent, notably India and Nepal. Raksha bandhan means "bond of protection". It is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu luni-solar calendar month of Shravana, which typically falls in Gregorian calendar month of August.
The festival celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters. It is also popularly used to celebrate any brother-sister type of relationship between men and women who may or may not be biologically related. On Raksha Bandhan, a sister ties a rakhi (sacred thread) on her brother's wrist with a prayer for his prosperity and happiness. This symbolizes the sister's love. The brother gives her a token gift and a promise to protect her.
Thus, Rakhi has been one of my favorite holidays because I am blessed with TWO amazing brothers. The Shaffali brand was born from endless meetings with Amit in my parent's Southern California home nearly a decade ago. There was a finished third floor that I had been given complete artistic freedom to design and I used principles from Feng Shui as well as the high from California sunshine to shape my choices. Thus, the walls are raspberry with a faux texture of rough stone and the ceiling is straight up sky blue - a beautiful place to brainstorm together about a wellness lifestyle brand. It was in that raspberry and sky blue sanctuary that Amit came up with the brand's mantra "Reflect the Light Within", amongst many things. I actually still have our meeting notebook and notes from many of those meetings, many dated from 2004!
This is truly an opportune time for Amit to officially join forces with me. When I did my yoga teacher training over a decade ago, I urged Amit to join me and he was not having it then. I was living in Southern California and was totally blissed out from the practice which inspired me to become a yogini. Anyway, about two years ago, Amit quit a career of banking to become a yoga teacher - training in the South of Spain and teaching in places such as Rishikesh and Bali. In fact, Amit lived in Bali for several months and just recently returned Stateside. I was lucky enough to spend three weeks with him in Bali just two weeks after returning from my honeymoon in Spain. It was in Bali we discussed much of the changes we are currently implementing in the company.
Being aware of Amit's background as an insider has helped me to create a unique set of responsibilities which will leverage his strengths as an out of the box thinker who has a true talent in creating meaningful relationships. It will also help alleviate some responsibilities for me so that I can focus on new product development, content creation as well as immersive yoga retreats.
Though his duties do not require him to be active on social media, we hope he will show us some of his amazing travel pics as well as yoga poses. :)
Happy Rakhi Amit, Love you and look forward to seeing where we go together!!!!
